We Support Conservation
Five Elements Natural Skincare donates a significant portion of its profits to support New Zealand conservation efforts. Located along the stunning Pelorus River Valley, at the top of the beautiful South Island, we are privileged to be surrounded by an abundant nature world which inspires us to create and give back to others.
"We believe it is our responsibility to protect our beautiful environment for generations to come."
Bats are New Zealand's only native land mammals. Three species known to New Zealand are the greater short-tailed bat (Mystacina robusta), the lesser short-tailed bat (Mystacina tuberculata); which are endemic, and the long-tailed bat (Chalinolobus tuberculatus).
The devastating and ongoing decline in New Zealand’s bats is a result of the mammalian predators (possums, rats, mice and stoats) that arrived with humans. Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve/Titiraukawa, is home to one of the last remaining populations of bats in the top of the South Island.
With the assistance of volunteers, Forest & Bird has initiated a trapping programme to protect the Pelorus Bridge bat population. 15% of Profits for June & July will be donated to the Bat Recovery Project in the Pelorus Bridge Reserve.
Due to the effort of volunteers, we have successfully caught 12,451 critters since the trapping Program started in 2010. The biggest culprits, as you can see are rats, which accounted for 44% of total critters trapped.
